Text Scam Alert: Fake Traffic Citiation Payment Request

Scams involve Fake Text Messages from the Court Seeking Owed Money for Citation
Oakland, Calif. – May 29, 2025 – The Superior Court of Alameda County has been made aware of an ongoing scam that uses fake text messages appearing to be sent by the Court that seek payment for unpaid traffic citations.
The Court does not contact the public through text messages to make payments for traffic citations.
The public is cautioned not to provide financial or personal information If contacted via text or a phone call. The Court does not seek this information through texts or phone calls.
Anyone unsure about having paid a traffic citation should visit the Court’s website at www.alameda.courts.ca.gov and click on “Pay Your Traffic Ticket.” From there, they will be directed to a site from which they can enter their name and driver’s license number to see if there are any outstanding traffic citations.
The Court has also been made aware of fake City of Oakland parking citations/tickets which appear to be an underground advertising campaign. Parking citations/tickets of any kind are administered and processed by the city from which the parking citation/ticket was issued. The Court does not process parking citations/tickets.
Anyone with questions about the legitimacy of a parking citation/ticket, should contact the city from which it was issued.
