Public Portal Outage Update

Date 3/9/2022 10:28 a.m.

On 3/3, the Court was notified that its version of Tyler’s Public Portal used by our Court, has a potential exploit that could be used to access data outside the access parameters set for our community.

Tyler’s recommendation at the time was to take the Public Portal offline until a resolution could be found and implemented. At that time many California Tyler courts followed this guidance.

On 3/4, Tyler announced a patch to remediate this exploit. Upon application of this fix several courts experienced loss of functionality within the Odyssey case management system. Alameda was one of these courts.

Since the release of this patch to Alameda on 3/5 and the subsequent failure of the patch, Alameda County Superior Court has been communicating with Tyler diligently to either provide an updated patch for this exploit or to provide another avenue of remediation.

As of this morning Tyler has provided neither. In the near term our Court has been able to mitigate the exploit and restored access to all Court and major County facilities using their public Wi-Fi connections. Unfortunately, the solution does not scale beyond providing access to the fore mention locations. If you need immediate access, we suggest accessing a Court or County facility and using the Court-Public or Alameda County Public Wireless Wi-Fi networks or a public terminal at a Court site.

The Court will be updating this page as we continue to goad Tyler for progress and commitments on the restoration of the Public Portal service. We will be updating this page periodically once there is something to report.
