NANCY ROBERTS LONSDALE, APPOINTED COURT COMMISSIONER
SUPERIOR COURT OF CALIFORNIA,
COUNTY OF ALAMEDA

The Superior Court of California, County of Alameda, appointed Nancy Roberts Lonsdale Superior Court Commissioner. Commissioner Lonsdale took the Oath of Office on January 8, 2001, in a ceremony in Department 1, William A. McKinstry, Presiding Judge presiding. She will assume her new duties immediately thereafter.

Commissioner Lonsdale’s current assignment is Department 603 at the Fremont Hall of Justice.

Commissioner Lonsdale stated that “I am truly honored by this appointment from the Court. I look forward to continuing my career in public service as a judicial officer. I pledge to the people of Alameda County that I will do my best to provide fair, impartial and efficient adjudication of their legal matters.”

Prior to her appointment as a Superior Court Commissioner, Nancy Roberts Lonsdale held the position of Hearing Judge at the State Bar Court from 1995. She heard cases involving the admission to practice and discipline of attorneys; assigned cases on a direct case management basis; conducted all discovery and pre-trial motion proceedings, and settlement negotiations; presided at bench trials; prepared detailed decisions providing findings of fact and conclusions of law, and recommendations to the Supreme Court. She participated in the management of court on the Executive Committee and as Assistant Supervising Judge for the San Francisco venue.

Commissioner Lonsdale has served as a labor and Civil Law Arbitrator and Mediator from 1989-1995. She served as Judge Pro Tempore, at the State Bar Court of California from 1990 - 1994.

Commissioner Lonsdale has provided legal services in other areas, including supervising the Court Appointed Election of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters pursuant to federal law; apprenticeship in labor arbitration from 1988-89, of counsel in the Law Offices of Ann Rankin from 1985 - 1987, partner and associate at Davis, Cowell & Bowe in San Francisco from 1978 - 1985. Commissioner Lonsdale also served as a lecturer at St. Mary’s College Paralegal Program from 1979 - 1983.

Commissioner Lonsdale graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California at Berkeley and received her Juris Doctorate degree in 1978. She earned a B.A. in English and Italian Literature from Stanford University in 1975.

Commissioner Lonsdale has maintained high professional and work standards in her legal career. She is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association, the National Association of Women Judges, California Judges Association and the San Francisco Bar Association.
