SUBJECT:    West Oakland Community Meeting

DATE:           February 16, 2001

On January 17, 2001 the Superior Court sponsored a Community Meeting at the West Oakland Senior Center. This was the first of six such meetings to be held in 2001.  The meeting was held to receive input from the community regarding how the Alameda County Justice System is meeting their needs.  More than 130 people attended and participated in a dialogue with several judges and other leaders of the Justice System in Alameda County including representatives of the District Attorney, Public Defender, Sheriff, Probation, Mental Health, Social Services, Board of Supervisors, and the Alameda County Bar Association.

Attached to this memorandum are copies of notes and flip-chart entries made at the meeting.  These have been sent to all Judges of the Superior Court and to the Justice System Department Heads.  In some cases comments will be directly responded to by the court or the appropriate agency.  In other cases the items will be considered as input from the community.
