Court Divisions - Civil
General Civil Cases are broken up into two main categories, General jurisdiction and Limited jurisdiction.
General jurisdiction cases cover any original proceeding in which the underlying case does not relate to a violation of criminal law and the amount in controversy is greater than $25,000.
Limited jurisdiction cases are also a non-criminal complaint, however the amount in controversy is $25,000 or less.
Examples of hearings conducted are motions; settlement conferences; status conferences; case management conferences; court and jury trials.
