You may file a civil in this Court if the total amount of damages exceeds $25,000. The jurisdiction of the Alameda Superior Court extends throughout the county. In addition to the requisite amount of claimed damages, in order to file a civil action in the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda, one of the following must be true:
- A defendant lives in the county of Alameda, or the defendant is a business which has its principal place of business in the Alameda County.
- A person was injured or personal property was damaged in Alameda County, and these damages make up the foundation of the claim being filed.
- A defendant signed or entered into a contract in Alameda County, a defendant lived in Alameda County when the contract was entered into, a contract or obligation was to be performed in Alameda County, or the defendant was a corporation and the contract was breached in Alameda County.
